Past Projects

Here is a small flavour of some of the projects we have supported to date

Parkinsons Intervention

Working in partnership with Hobbs Rehab, we funded two cohorts of Parkinson’s intervention groups at Alton Sports Centre. These sessions provided an elite service at an affordable level, and in a more accessible location. This included participation from 16 individuals across 16 sessions. Participants continue to engage with the leisure centre using their free memberships delegated to individuals with Parkinson’s. A small group of participants have formed a social group, who use the leisure centre together and meet for coffee and conversation in the cafe. Other participants have continued to use Hobbs other services in order to help with their management of Parkinson’s.

Steady and Strong Clanfield

We funded the start of a new Steady and Strong class in Clanfield. This provides an excellent form of exercise for individuals looking to improve their strength, stability and balance with age. There was existing Steady and Strong provision across the north of East Hampshire, however this service was lacking in our southern parishes. The class continues to run self sustainably.

Adult Carers Dance Class

We worked with Dementia Friendly Alton to fund the start of a new dance class, specifically for adult carers. This took place alongside other activities that the cared for individuals could participate in. This addressed one of the main barriers faced by carers, which was finding time to take care of their own wellbeing, when their priority is so often the person they care for.

Tai Chi

We helped to start a new Tai Chi session at the Triangle Centre in Liss. This was well timed after a coffee morning at the venue, which allowed individuals to continue their socialisation while enjoying some group exercise.

Dementia Friendly Walking Football

Working in Partnership with Dementia Friendly Petersfield, we helped to fund a Walking Football session. This offered a great, gentle form of exercise. A social area was also created alongside the indoor football pitch, for friends / family / carers to have refreshments and a chat.

Nordic Walking

We funded a 6-week crash course in Nordic Walking, led by a skilled instructor. This gave participants the skills required to begin Nordic Walking in their own time. It also created a great social group of like minded individuals who could participate in the walks together.

Yoga in the park

Our funding helped a new yoga in the park session get started in Alton. The session is catered towards complete beginners, with a focus on a welcoming, judgement free environment. This has been a huge success with over 60 people in attendance some weeks. The sessions are free to attend, with a voluntary contribution helping towards keeping the class sustainable.
